Early Years

We have an award winning Early Years Unit at Emmanuel School, providing exceptional small group education in a very friendly environment where children are nurtured and educated. The experienced nursery staff provide a wonderful environment for young children to learn more about themselves and the world around them.  The nursery is open from 9am-3pm and supports the entitlement to free 15 hours early years provision for 3 and 4 year olds. Reception is open during normal school hours and school fees apply.

Our National Award
We are very excited that our Early Years Unit recently won a national award for Innovation and Excellence from the Independent Schools Association. The ISA judges wrote:

Emmanuel School Derby impressed the judges with their fantastic level of dedication to learning. All staff led passionate and enthusing Zoom lessons during lockdown that kept pupils learning and developing as effectively as if they had been in the classroom. Evidence from parents shows that the innovation and care demonstrated by staff had a real and measurable effect.

It takes a whole community to educate a child
Emmanuel EYU aims aim to foster strong and effective relationships with parents and keep them fully informed about their children’s progress. We are keen for parents to feel fully involved in their children’s learning and in the life of the nursery. We actively seek to involve the families, local people and organisations in the life of the nursery.

Education For All

Emmanuel EYU is open to all regardless of faith, ethnicity, educational needs, gender or sexual orientation and provides targeted support to remove barriers to learning.

Reception

Our Reception class is a lively and enjoyable setting for our 4-5 years olds.  The class spend time learning with their dedicated teacher as well as spending time with Emmanuel Nursery during some parts of the week.  The classroom has various provision areas for the children to explore the different aspects of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).

Curriculum

Emmanuel Nursery is run in accordance with the guidelines of the EYFS as required by central government. The activities provided are set within a Christian framework, into which we have incorporated the three prime areas and the four specific areas of the EYFS.

‘Free Play’ activities form a large part of all sessions, planned so that all areas of a child’s development are covered.   Adults also lead short learning activities to meet the individual learning needs of each child. These include singing, reading stories and looking at letters and numbers

Christian Framework

Emmanuel Nursery aim to provide an excellent all-round education that values the academic, physical and the spiritual.

We believe each child is uniquely precious to God and uniquely gifted by Him. Where appropriate Christian perspectives and principles are brought out naturally in the way adults encourage each child to act with compassion within the nursery, within their communities and within the world at large.   With each topic we teach whether Reading, Numbers or P.E we endeavour to introduce a heart concept that enables our children to see the subject and therefore the world through God’s eyes.
