Emmanuel School is a ministry of East Midlands Christian Fellowships.  It was established in 1988 to meet a perceived need that the current education system was limited in offering our children the foundations needed to mature in their Christian faith and academic ability.  As a result we have established a school where Christian beliefs and atmosphere are central to a child releasing their spiritual and academic potential.

We cater for children aged 3 – 11 years.  Our school is situated at Juniper Lodge on Kedleston Road Derby with a capacity for up to 75 children.

The school is organized into three departments and we actively promote considerable interaction between them.  Our aim is to encourage a strong sense of family within the school where children actively support and encourage each other.

These three departments are:

  • Early Years (ages 3-5 – Nursery and Reception)
  • Infant Department (Ages 5-7)
  • Junior Department (Ages 7 – 11)

The school is a subsidiary of East Midlands Christian Fellowships (EMCF), a company limited by guarantee and a registered charity.  The Elders of the church are responsible for the oversight of the running of the school.  They are assisted by the Board of School Governors who comprise teachers, elders and parents to act as the governing body.

The school’s finances are administered by the board of directors (trustees) of EMCF.  The running expenses of the school are financed by the fees paid, although the school receives a significant subsidy from church.  Children between the ages of 3 and 5 are eligible for the Nursery Grant administered through the local authority, which covers most of the cost.  Details of the fees can be found in FEES.

As part of our policy of working closely with parents, parents of children attending full-time are asked to spend 3 hours a week during term-time or equivalent in helping at school.  This may take the form of classroom support, administrative or maintenance tasks according to the need and to parents’ talents.  Parents of children attending the nursery may wish to offer occasional help.
